Forestry

  • Values mapping on trap line to establish family history.
  • Under the direction of Cat Lake and Slate Falls First Nation, established a procedure to develop a Land Use Plan for their traditional territories. This will eventually allow them establish their own Sustainable Forestry License.
  • Establish a data sharing agreement between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Windigo First Nations Council.
  • Review all the options in regards to the Area North of The Undertaking with the communities that will be affected first, mainly Cat Lake and Slate Falls First Nations.
  • Review forest management plans that are in effect and the ones that are presently being written.
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Forest Industry and the Windigo communities (ongoing).
  • Advised and assisted the economic development officers of the Windigo First Nations Council and communities regarding forestry-related issues.
  • Assist Slate Falls Nation in negotiating an agreement between a forestry company and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
  • Develop a proposal to assist communities with resources negotiations.
  • Developing a proposal to utilize all Windigo First Nations Council communities' forest fire fighters to fight forest fires within the traditional area of Windigo communities.
  • Assist the communities in resource development (forestry, tourism, mining etc.).
  • Developed business plans used to assist Slate Falls Nation in the purchasing of a Tourism Resort.
  • Developed a business plan for Slate Falls Nation to purchase a Cessna Caravan and to amalgamate Matt Air Service Ltd and Bamaji Air Inc.
  • Developed an agreement between Slate Falls Nation and McKenzie Forest Products that allows for and all weather roak to be built to the community.
  • Review all documentation pertaining to forestry activities.
  • Proposal for various resources activities within the communities (forestry, tourism).
  • Review letters of intent and operational agreements for the various communities and the forest industry.
  • Assist the communities in other resource related matters as required.
  • Develop trap line maps for the areas which we have digital data available.
